Trumpets of spring

Another pleasure of living in a new place – you don’t know what to expect, if anything, from the garden. There are soon-to-bloom daffodils and tulips coming up out front but they look to be days or even weeks from blooming. But at the base of the big linden tree in back, this lovely surprise. Not only daffodils, one of my favorites, but the two-tone variety. Regardless of the soggy forecast, these large blooms are trumpeting the arrival of spring. The sight of them lifts my spirit.

How susceptible we are to outside stimuli. Sunshine and daffodils make me smile. Beethoven’s 5th and 7th symphonies are my creativity music, while Tchaikovsky has me feeling like my 5-year-old self in pink tutu and ballet slippers. Kira’s purr, which can rarely be heard but can be felt, is a perfect stress reliever. And chocolate…well…it’s an essential food group that feeds and comforts the soul.

Cats, concertos, chocolate…life is good!
